Bullet #1

~ Time as a mirror ~

♫ “Everything and Nothing” - SOFT PLAY

When I was 25 I set a goal to write a blog post and post it online. I gave myself 10 years to do it. That was 5 years ago, so now seems as good a time as any to ‘get ahead’. The aim is a quick ‘Bullet style’ blog. The topic today; Time.

“Time heals all wounds”. I don’t believe that. I turned 30 this year. Looking back and counting up, I have worked 15 jobs in my time, ordered a hundred airport coffees, hiked marathons; some savoured, some forgotten. Notes written, pints deleted and cigarettes smoked on balconies. Friends made, lovers lost. Titling to the sky to discuss the moon, trying to hold in both hands the full weight of a moment.

Time is a teacher. Time is an unrelenting mirror that cannot be shattered, scraped or marked by your mood swings. For a lot of people, what we see in the mirror we get more comfortable with. We make resignations as well as resolutions. The healing part does happen, as we get over failures that change their shape, broken relationships become signposts and grief resides where it once eroded.

Fond memories of celebration can compete with melancholy. Both get air time on the old photo channel. The impassive mirror shows a balanced picture; Time wasn’t as rich as you thought it was then, and it isn’t as fleeting as you think it is now.
